New Tree Planting Initiative in Kawnia Upazila Targets Climate Change

Importance of Tree Planting Highlighted

In Kawnia Upazila, officials and community leaders gathered to launch a tree planting initiative aimed at enhancing environmental balance and combating climate change. The event, held to mark the inauguration of a tree planting project along a major road, emphasized the critical role of afforestation in increasing green cover and fostering public participation in environmental protection.

The program is part of a larger government initiative to plant 250 million trees across the country over the next five years. Kawnia Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Papia Sultana led the event by planting saplings, highlighting the need for ongoing care and conservation of the trees to ensure the program's success.

Commitment to Long-term Environmental Goals

Local leaders, including Balapara Union Parishad Chairman Md Ansar Ali and Jamaat-e-Islami Balapara Union President Md Abdur Rahim, stressed the importance of continued tree planting and maintenance. They noted that these efforts are essential to adapting to climate change, reducing urbanization pressure, and securing a green environment for future generations.

UNO Papia Sultana pointed out that the tree planting program will be implemented in various upazilas in phases, as part of the nationwide initiative. She urged all stakeholders to contribute responsibly to ensure the program's success.

The event was attended by journalists from various media outlets and local dignitaries, reflecting the importance of the initiative and its potential impact on the region.
