Deadly Collision on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway: Two Lives Lost, Five Injured

A three-vehicle collision on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Madhabpur upazila has resulted in two fatalities and five injuries.

On a somber Sunday afternoon, a tragic road accident claimed the lives of two individuals and left five others injured on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj district. The collision involved an oil tanker heading towards Sylhet and a truck bound for Dhaka, resulting in the overturning of the truck and subsequent impact with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw.

Incident Details

The accident occurred around 2:00 PM in the Bejura area. The deceased have been identified as Ripon Mia, 27, a resident of Ratanpur village in Madhabpur upazila, who was a helper on the truck, and Abul Khayer, 50, a resident of West Madhabpur area, who was a passenger in the CNG auto-rickshaw. Both individuals died at the scene.

Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene, rescuing the injured and transporting them to the Madhabpur Upazila Health Complex for medical attention. The bodies of the deceased were taken to the Shayestaganj Highway Police Station, and the injured are receiving necessary care at the health complex.

Officer-in-Charge of the Shayestaganj Highway Police Station, Shubha Ranjan Chakma, confirmed the incident and stated that further legal proceedings are underway to determine the cause and circumstances of the collision.

The community in Madhabpur is deeply affected by this tragic event, as families and friends mourn the loss of Ripon Mia and Abul Khayer. The local authorities are urging all drivers to exercise caution on the roads and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such accidents in the future.
