The Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) is bolstering the city's security framework with the installation of 370 state-of-the-art closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras. These cameras, strategically placed at critical points and intersections, aim to serve as a powerful deterrent against various criminal activities, including theft, snatching, robbery, extortion, and harassment.
The initiative, which sees collaboration between the RMP and the Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC), reflects a forward-thinking approach to crime prevention. By leveraging advanced surveillance technology, the city authorities hope to enhance public safety and ensure that criminals have fewer opportunities to operate undetected.
Already, 155 of these cutting-edge CCTV cameras have been handed over to the RMP by the RCC. Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton formally presented the cameras to Metropolitan Police Commissioner Faizul Kabir, emphasizing the city's commitment to ensuring citizen security.
In addition to the donated cameras, the RMP has procured and installed another 215 CCTV cameras, according to Gaziur Rahman, Spokesperson of the RMP and Deputy Commissioner. These cameras will be operational 24/7, monitored through a centralized control center to maximize their effectiveness.
Commissioner Faizul Kabir highlighted the importance of technology in modern law enforcement, stating that CCTV cameras are crucial in identifying criminals. By creating a comprehensive surveillance network, the RMP aims to eliminate any safe havens for criminals post-crime.
Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton reiterated the administration's dedication to the safety and well-being of the city's residents. 'We are working to ensure citizen security and will continue to collaborate with the RMP to build a safe and peaceful metropolis,' Riton said.
