Authorities in Bagerhat made a significant drug seizure when they arrested a woman carrying 10,000 yaba pills on August 9, 2026. The operation, led by the Department of Narcotics Control, took place near Barkat Filling Station on the Bagerhat-Pirojpur highway, where Nurjahan Begum, 46, was caught.

Nurjahan Begum hails from the Baichakathi (Pashchimpara) area in Nazirpur upazila of Pirojpur. During the raid, officials discovered 50 blue zippered packets of orange-colored yaba pills in her possession, each packet containing 200 pills. The total weight of the seized yaba pills is about one kilogram, with an estimated market value of Tk 30 lakh.

Sheikh Mizanur Rahman, the deputy director of the Department of Narcotics Control in Bagerhat, reported that the arrest was made following a thorough search of Begum's vanity bag. A formal case has been filed against her under the Narcotics Control Act, indicating that the authorities are taking stringent action against drug trafficking.

The interception of such a large quantity of yaba pills highlights the ongoing struggle against drug trafficking in the region. Yaba, a potent stimulant, is known for its widespread abuse and severe health consequences. The Department of Narcotics Control continues its efforts to curb the illegal drug trade.

Nurjahan Begum's arrest is a reminder of the persistent efforts by law enforcement to dismantle drug networks. The Department of Narcotics Control's proactive measures and vigilance have led to several successful operations in recent times, aiming to protect communities from the dangers of drug addiction.
