State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Chowdhury announced today that the government will take necessary steps to preserve and refurbish the historic Kalurghat radio station, from where Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman made the declaration of independence. He made the remarks after visiting the station and exchanging views with journalists.

Historic Significance and Current State

Kalurghat radio station holds immense historical significance as the place from where Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman announced the declaration of independence. However, the station has been abandoned for a long time and has suffered damage due to rain. The government's initiative aims to protect and restore this important historical site.

Government Initiatives and Future Plans

During the visit, Yasser Khan Chowdhury expressed concern over the spread of fake information and rumours on social media. He mentioned that the government is considering new measures to combat misinformation. Additionally, a forensic audit is being initiated for Bangladesh Television (BTV) to improve programme quality, transmission, and digitalisation.

The state minister also highlighted the role of the Press Information Department (PID) in bridging the information gap between the government and the people. He assured that the government would take quick and effective measures to address the manpower shortage in the PID and urged officials to make their programmes more dynamic and effective.
