Matt Renshaw scored a maiden One-Day International (ODI) century as world champions Australia defeated Zimbabwe by 59 runs in Harare on Tuesday. This victory marks the beginning of a nine-match ODI and Test tour of southern Africa for Australia. The Australians posted a total of 294-8, with Renshaw's 109 runs playing a crucial role in setting up the win. Zimbabwe, in response, were all out for 235 with 4.5 overs remaining.

Renshaw, who previously scored an international century in a Test match against Pakistan in 2017, entered the game with Australia at 107-4. His innings, a mix of big hitting and efficient running, included three sixes, seven fours, 49 singles, and seven twos. Batting at number six in his 10th ODI, Renshaw surpassed his previous best of 61, significantly contributing to Australia's total.

Renshaw's century was part of two crucial partnerships for Australia. He added 72 runs with Alex Carey (27) and 75 runs with 19-year-old Oliver Peake (30). His innings came to an end when he was caught by Wessly Madhevere off a delivery from Newman Nyamhuri. Renshaw reflected on his performance, noting the importance of rebuilding the innings after early wickets.

Quick Nathan Ellis also played a pivotal role for Australia, taking a career-best 5-31. His bowling helped dismiss top Zimbabwe scorer Craig Ervine (59) and opener Brian Bennett (25). Despite a strong start, Zimbabwe could not maintain their momentum, with Cooper Connolly contributing a half-century for Australia.

Zimbabwe's Twenty-year-old bowler Nyamhuri was the standout performer for the home side, taking 5-62 in nine overs. However, after a shaky start at 62-4, partnerships between Craig Ervine and Sikandar Raza (57) offered some resistance. Nevertheless, Australia's disciplined bowling, led by Ellis, ensured the visitors secured a comfortable victory.

Australia now leads the three-match series 1-0, with the remaining games scheduled for Friday and Sunday. Following the Zimbabwe series, Australia will travel to South Africa for three ODIs starting September 24, followed by three Tests. This series is part of Australia's preparations for upcoming international competitions, highlighting the importance of consistent performance in overseas conditions.
