The Los Angeles Dodgers have secured their place in the postseason with a 4-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Monday night. The victory, which came thanks to home runs from Kyle Tucker and Teoscar Hernandez, puts the Dodgers in the playoffs for the 14th straight season and keeps them in the hunt for a third consecutive World Series title.

With a record of 91-59 and 12 games remaining in the regular season, the Dodgers are guaranteed at least a wild card series place. They are also in contention for one of the National League's top-two seeds, which would grant them a first-round bye and hosting rights in the division series. The Milwaukee Brewers are their closest competitors for this position.

The Dodgers' journey to the playoffs has not been without its challenges. Despite leading the NL West by a significant margin at the All-Star break, they suffered a mid-season slump. Injuries have sidelined two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani, who is not expected to pitch again this season, and his batting form has dipped. However, a recent run of eight straight victories has restored their lead at the top of the NL West.

If the Dodgers were to win the World Series this year, they would become the first National League club to achieve the feat three years in a row, and the first team to do so since the New York Yankees from 1998-2000. The Dodgers have bolstered their roster with the addition of outfielder Kyle Tucker in the off-season and two-time Cy Young Award-winning pitcher Tarik Skubal last month, making them favorites to complete their hat-trick.

The Dodgers' closest rivals for a top-two seed are the Atlanta Braves of the NL East. Meanwhile, in the American League, the Tampa Bay Rays have already qualified for the postseason. The Dodgers' quest for a third straight World Series title is well and truly underway.
