Bangladesh's cricket team is setting its sights on the two-Test series against Australia, beginning with their first training session in Darwin. Despite the setbacks posed by injuries, the team is optimistic about their upcoming matches. Experienced spinner Taijul Islam expressed satisfaction with the team's early progress, highlighting the completion of all planned activities on the first day of training.

Comprehensive Preparations Underway

The training sessions in Darwin included a mix of fitness drills, batting, bowling, fielding, and running exercises, as the team prepares for their first Test on Australian soil in 23 years. Fast bowler Taskin Ahmed, who consulted a specialist for long-standing injuries, has joined the team and participated in the training. 'The journey was good because we had a transit on the way and got enough rest there,' Taijul said in a video message released by the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

The team will continue their training in Darwin until August 5 before facing a Cricket Australia XI in a three-day warm-up match. Two additional practice days are scheduled before the opening Test on August 13. The second Test is set for August 22 at Mackay.

Injuries Cast a Shadow

The team's preparations have been marred by injuries. Pace bowler Nahid Rana has been ruled out of both Tests, while Liton Das has been included in the squad for the first Test following positive rehabilitation progress. Left-arm seamer Shoriful Islam remains unavailable for the series opener but could return before the second Test.

Bangladesh have played six Tests against Australia, winning once and losing the other five. Their only victory came in Mirpur in 2017, while three of their defeats were by an innings. The upcoming series presents a significant challenge but also an opportunity for the team to make history.

The team's resilience and determination, despite the setbacks, underscore their commitment to giving their best performance on the field. The return to Australian soil after 23 years adds a layer of historical significance to the series.
