In a historic moment at Headingley, Ollie Robinson made headlines by becoming the first player to take a wicket with the first ball of a Test series in England. The recalled seamer set the tone for England's performance against Pakistan on the first day of the match. Robinson's impressive figures of 4-39 in 16 overs significantly contributed to Pakistan's struggles, leaving them at 150-7 at tea on the opening day of a three-match campaign.

Joe Root won the toss and elected to field, a decision that paid off almost immediately. Robinson wasted no time, having Azan Awais lbw for a golden duck with his very first delivery. This remarkable feat marked Robinson's 500th first-class wicket, achieved at an average of 21. His early success continued as he dismissed Shan Masood for just five, maintaining England's dominance.

Pakistan found some respite through the partnership of Imam-ul-Haq and Abdullah Shafique, who added 91 runs together. However, their innings was interrupted by a rain delay of over an hour. Despite this, Robinson remained a constant threat, eventually dismissing Shafique with a nip-back delivery. His performance was pivotal in keeping England ahead, especially following the exits of former captain Ben Stokes and red-ball coach Brendon McCullum.

Fast bowler Josh Tongue also made significant contributions, finishing with figures of 3-41 in 7.4 overs. He was particularly effective in the second session, removing stand-in Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha and Ali Usman with the last two balls, leaving him on a hat-trick. Tongue's efforts, combined with Robinson's historic start, put England in a strong position as they look to make a statement in the post-Bazball era.

As the match progressed, Pakistan continued to face challenges. Saud Shakeel was controversially given out lbw to Robinson, a decision that was later questioned as replays suggested the ball might have missed leg stump. This added to Pakistan's woes, as they struggled to build any significant partnerships. England's bowlers, led by Robinson and Tongue, exploited the conditions effectively, leaving Pakistan with a mountain to climb in the remainder of the match.
