The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has filed 1,841 cases against vehicles for violating traffic rules in the capital as part of its ongoing enforcement campaign aimed at ensuring traffic discipline, reducing congestion, and improving road safety. The campaign, conducted on August 18, involved multiple divisions of the DMP, resulting in the dumping of 581 motor vehicles and towing of 333.

Enforcement Campaign Details

According to a press release from the DMP's media and public relations division, the enforcement campaign was carried out by various traffic divisions across the city. The Traffic-Ramna Division filed 137 cases, while the Traffic-Lalbagh Division filed 167 cases. The Traffic-Motijheel Division filed 353 cases, and the Traffic-Wari Division filed 162 cases. Additionally, the Traffic-Tejgaon Division filed 161 cases, and the Traffic-Mirpur Division filed 366 cases. The Traffic-Uttara Division registered 287 cases, and the Traffic-Gulshan Division filed 208 cases.

Types of Vehicles Involved

The cases involved a variety of vehicles, including buses, trucks, covered vans, CNG-run auto-rickshaws, and motorcycles. For instance, the Traffic-Ramna Division filed cases against five buses, six covered vans, one CNG-run auto-rickshaw, and 31 motorcycles. The Traffic-Lalbagh Division filed cases against four buses, 18 trucks, four covered vans, 15 CNG-run auto-rickshaws, and 87 motorcycles. This diversity in vehicle types highlights the widespread nature of traffic rule violations in the city.

The DMP has emphasized that such enforcement drives will continue, urging both motorists and pedestrians to comply with traffic regulations to help maintain order on the roads. The ongoing efforts by the DMP are crucial for ensuring the safety and efficiency of traffic flow in Dhaka, a city known for its high population density and traffic congestion.

The enforcement of traffic laws is essential not only for maintaining order but also for reducing the risk of accidents. Traffic violations often lead to hazardous conditions on the roads, posing a threat to both vehicle occupants and pedestrians. By cracking down on violators, the DMP aims to create a safer environment for all road users.
