Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon announced that the government is constructing modern information complexes in every district and upazila. These complexes will serve as multifaceted centers for information, knowledge, entertainment, and research. The announcement was made during the inauguration of the modern Barishal Divisional Information Complex at Ichhakathi in Kashipur of Barishal city. The event was organized by the Department of Mass Communication under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Multifunctional Information Hubs
The information complexes are designed to be more than just buildings; they will function as hubs of information, knowledge, and research. Primarily, they will operate as Digital Information Service Centres, offering a wide range of digital services to the public. These complexes will feature state-of-the-art technology, including cineplexes and electronic screens capable of screening digital, 3D, and 4D films.
Nationwide Expansion and International Standards
Development work on the information complexes is already underway in 26 districts. The government aims to bring the quality of these complexes up to international standards by giving equal importance to both infrastructure engineering and software engineering. Promotional leaflets will be distributed to local educational institutions to popularize the facilities and encourage student research.
Combating Misinformation
Mahbuba Farjana, Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, highlighted that these information complexes will play a crucial role in combating misinformation and disinformation. The complexes are expected to provide accurate and reliable information to the public, thereby enhancing public trust and knowledge.
Local Leadership and Investment
The seven-storey modern Information Complex in Barishal is being constructed at a cost of Taka 17.63 crore. Local officials, including Barishal Divisional Commissioner Khalil Ahmed and Barishal City Corporation Administrator Advocate Bilkis Akter Jahan Shirin, were present at the inauguration event. Project Director Moniruzzaman gave a welcome address, and Deputy Project Director Rezaur Rabbi Moni presented details of the project through a multimedia presentation.
