In a meeting held at the Mymensingh Deputy Commissioner's conference room, State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury addressed concerns about the spread of misinformation on social media. He assured citizens of their right to criticize the government, but made it clear that narratives harmful to the country and its people would be met with strict measures.
Choudhury explained that the government is working on amendments to the Cyber Security Act, with a high-level committee already formed for this purpose. He stressed that these laws are not intended to target any political party or individual but rather to enhance the security and safety of the nation, particularly for women and children.
Highlighting the importance of moral education, Choudhury mentioned the government's initiative to prevent cyberbullying. He also announced plans to build playgrounds in every union and mini stadiums in every upazila, aiming to foster a healthy generation of children.
The discussion, presided over by Deputy Commissioner Md Saifur Rahman, included a speech by Police Superintendent Mohammad Kamrul Hasan. Acting Deputy Director of Local Government Division Umme Habiba Meera presented the keynote paper, focusing on strategies to combat misinformation.
Choudhury reiterated that the government's actions are not about stifling dissent but ensuring the country's integrity and the well-being of its citizens. The meeting underscored the importance of a collaborative effort to maintain a secure and informed digital space.
