Karoline Leavitt, the White House Press Secretary under President Donald Trump, has announced her departure from the role. Leavitt, 28, will leave at the end of the month to spend more time with her family. President Trump confirmed her departure on social media, stating that she would remain a senior advisor and influential voice within the Republican Party.
Leavitt, the youngest ever US presidential top spokesperson, has been a staunch defender of Trump, known for her aggressive and fluent performances at press briefings. She gained notoriety for her putdowns of journalists and for changing White House media policies to favor pro-Trump outlets.
In May, Leavitt announced the birth of her second child, a daughter named Viviana, just days after delaying her maternity leave following an alleged assassination attempt on Trump. Her departure comes amid sinking poll numbers for Trump and as the Republican Party faces potential defeat in the November midterm elections.
Leavitt expressed gratitude to Trump for the opportunity to serve as press secretary and emphasized her commitment to holding the media accountable. She cited the need to be a better mother to her young children as a key reason for her decision to step down. Leavitt has a history of loyalty to Trump, having served in his press office during his first term and as his spokesperson during his 2024 election campaign.
