In a bid to elevate academic standards, the Faculty of Social Sciences at Dhaka University organized a workshop for its lecturers and assistant professors. Held on Wednesday, the workshop aimed to equip educators with the latest practices in research, teaching, and academic growth.
The event, titled 'The Modern Social Scientists: Navigating Research, Teaching and Academic Growth,' featured a series of insightful sessions that covered key aspects of contemporary academic life. The day-long workshop took place at the Professor Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium, commencing at 10:30am and concluding at 4pm.
Prominent academics, including Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Abdus Salam and UGC member Prof. Abdullah-Al-Mamun, highlighted the importance of international collaboration and high-impact research. The speakers urged the attendees to focus on publishing in reputable journals and avoiding predatory publishers to maintain academic integrity.
Prof. Mahbobor Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, emphasized the need for modernizing teaching methods and strengthening ties with industry. He encouraged the faculty to engage in interdisciplinary research and contribute to the nation's development.
The closing remarks were delivered by Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Mohammad Almojaddade Alfasane, who recalled the university's historical role in nation-building. He encouraged young faculty members to embrace continuous learning and take on greater social responsibilities.
Former DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Anwarullah Chowdhury stressed the importance of political neutrality in teaching and the need for educators to remain committed to lifelong learning. The workshop concluded with a call to action for young academics to strive for excellence and contribute positively to the academic community.
