Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy is developing a comprehensive digital database of artists, writers, and poets to foster a healthy cultural environment, according to Director General Sheikh Rezauddin Ahmed. The initiative, announced during a meeting with cultural stakeholders in Rajshahi, aims to provide authorities with easy access to information about artists and their works from across the country. This move is crucial in combating the spread of unhealthy cultural practices, particularly in rural areas.

Ahmed highlighted the importance of modernizing traditional forms of entertainment, such as Jatra Pala, opera, drama, and puppetry, to present them in new formats. Additionally, the Academy is working to strengthen cultural activities by forming cultural agreements with 42 countries, offering Bangladeshi artists opportunities to participate in international programs.

Despite financial constraints, the Academy is committed to recognizing eminent artists. Shilpakala awards and honors will be given to deserving artists and cultural figures in every district after a two-year pause. The recognition process has already started in Naogaon, with a committee to be formed in Rajshahi to select recipients.

Institutional reforms are also underway, with amendments to laws and regulations to strengthen the Academy's administrative structure. This includes appointing deputy directors at the district level and directors at the divisional level. Furthermore, efforts are being made to renovate the Rajshahi Shilpakala Academy auditorium and control termite infestation.

This initiative signifies a significant step towards preserving and promoting Bangladesh's rich cultural heritage while countering negative influences, ultimately contributing to a more vibrant and healthy cultural landscape.
