In a significant move towards sustainable urban development, the Khulna Development Authority (KDA) has announced a comprehensive master plan for Dumuria, integrating modern infrastructure with environmental safeguards. The initiative, led by KDA Chairman Advocate SM Shafiqul Alam Mona, aims to cater to Dumuria's growing population while preserving its natural resources and enhancing connectivity with the main city.
Strategic Zoning and Infrastructure Development
The master plan focuses on strategically zoning residential, commercial, and industrial areas, ensuring that agricultural lands and water bodies remain protected. KDA plans to construct internal roads to facilitate better communication between Dumuria, known for its agricultural prowess, and the main city, improving connectivity and reducing travel time.
Environmental and Drainage Improvements
A key component of the plan is the preservation of natural canals and the development of a comprehensive drainage network to combat waterlogging, in line with directives from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. These measures are expected to enhance the quality of life for Dumuria's residents and protect the area's agricultural potential.
Community Engagement and Transparency
KDA organised a meeting with local residents to brief them on the master plan and solicit feedback. The initiative underscores the authority's commitment to transparency and reducing public harassment, aiming to make service provision more efficient and accountable.
Why This Matters for Bangladesh
This development plan is crucial for Bangladesh's urban planning, as it sets a precedent for integrating environmental sustainability with urban growth. By focusing on Dumuria, the plan also highlights the importance of regional development, ensuring that growth is not concentrated in urban centres but is spread across the country.
