In a significant operation, the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested five individuals in connection with a shooting incident in Pallabi that left two people injured. The arrests were made following a violent confrontation stemming from a dispute over a drug transaction.
Arrests and Recovery
Among those arrested are Hamid Khan, Makhon alias Langra Rubel, Tanzid Ahmed alias Bappa, Parvez, and Rabbi. DB's Mirpur Division recovered a foreign-made pistol, two rounds of ammunition, two magazines, 1,000 yaba tablets, and a vehicle allegedly used in the drug trade. The shooting took place on August 7, 2026, in front of Emon's tea stall in Section-11 of Pallabi.
The victims, Alamgir and a passerby named Josna, sustained gunshot wounds to their head, abdomen, and leg, respectively. DB identified a Toyota Premio used in the shooting through CCTV footage and technology. The vehicle's registered owner, Hamid, was the first to be arrested, and subsequent arrests were made based on information obtained from him.
During the operation, DB also recovered a Toyota Voxy and 1,000 yaba tablets in Kalshi. Langra Rubel and Bappa were later arrested from the Beribadh area near Eastern Housing in Rupnagar, where the firearm and ammunition were also recovered.
According to DB, the shooting was a result of a dispute over a drug transaction. The arrested individuals face multiple previous cases. A murder attempt case has already been filed, while separate cases under the Arms and Narcotics Control Acts are being processed.
DB's operation to arrest other suspects remains ongoing as they continue to investigate the incident and its broader implications.
