Authorities in Chattogram have imposed fines totaling Tk 1.95 lakh on three restaurants for severe hygiene violations, following a surprise inspection on August 11, 2026. Golden Bridge Restaurant faced the largest fine of Tk 1 lakh for storing expired food, while Cafe Al Makka Hotel and Restaurant was fined Tk 80,000 for unsanitary food preparation conditions. A third restaurant, Hazir Chuijhal, received a Tk 15,000 fine for using industrial salt in food preparation.
What led to the fines on these restaurants?
The fines were issued due to multiple health code violations, including storing expired and stale food, using unapproved salt in food, and maintaining unsanitary preparation and storage conditions. The inspection was led by Faiz Ullah, Deputy Director of the Chattogram Divisional Office of the National Consumer Rights Protection Department.
