In an effort to stabilize the fragile economy and foster growth, Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury emphasized the government's proactive steps. Speaking after a joint meeting with Chattogram customs and port officials, Khasru highlighted the key objectives of the new measures: to create jobs, boost exports, and spur industrialization while ensuring a safe business environment.

Khasru explained that the National Revenue Board (NBR) and Chattogram Port authorities have identified and addressed the port's issues, setting deadlines for implementation. This collaboration marks a significant step towards improving port efficiency and reducing cargo clearance time, which has long been a concern for businesses.

The minister underscored the importance of transparency and efficiency in operations, vowing to eliminate unethical practices and patronage. He assured that no individual, regardless of influence, would receive preferential treatment in business activities, aiming to create a level playing field.

Khasru also mentioned ongoing efforts to resolve issues such as stacked containers and illegal goods clearance. He stressed that a merit-based approach would be the norm, ensuring that all cargo clearance is conducted fairly and efficiently.

Acknowledging the Asian Development Bank's (ADB) support, Khasru highlighted their plans to transform Chattogram into a hub for Bangladesh's overall development. The ADB's commitment to enhancing Chattogram's role beyond logistics was seen as a positive sign for the nation's future growth.

With these measures in place, the government aims to create a robust and dynamic economic environment that attracts investment and supports sustainable development across the country.
