The Cabinet has given final and in-principle approval to the draft Bank Resolution (Amendment) Act, 2026, the draft Visa Policy, 2026, and the draft National Human Rights Commission Act, 2026. The approval was given in the 16th meeting of the Cabinet at the Secretariat with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in the chair.

Bank Resolution (Amendment) Act, 2026

The Bank Resolution Ordinance, 2025 was promulgated to address risks arising from capital shortfalls, liquidity crises, insolvency, or threats to the existence of scheduled banks, ensuring financial stability. The ordinance was transformed into the Bank Resolution Act, 2026, after detailed scrutiny by a parliamentary 'Special Committee'. The new Act incorporated a Section 18A to introduce a market-based alternative mechanism. However, since no applications were made under Section 18A, the draft amendment aims to repeal this section.

Visa Policy, 2026

The Cabinet approved the draft Visa Policy, 2026 to streamline the entry and departure of foreigners, attract foreign investment, promote tourism, and ensure national security. The new policy introduces 34 visa categories, up from 33 in the previous policy, and aims to create a modern and diversified migration framework.

National Human Rights Commission Act, 2026

The Cabinet also approved the draft National Human Rights Commission Act, 2026. The Commission will consist of one Chairperson and four Commissioners, with provisions for including at least one woman and prioritizing candidates from ethnic minority and disadvantaged communities. The Act includes mechanisms for effective investigations and interim orders to ensure the safety of victims.
