Authorities in Rangpur have intensified their crackdown on counterfeit goods with the arrest of a man possessing a significant amount of fake bidi bandrolls. The incident highlights the city's efforts to protect government revenue and ensure compliance with taxation laws.

Operation and Arrest Details

On the morning of August 10, 2026, a team from the Haragachh police station of the Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) executed a raid and arrested Md Hamidul Haque, son of the late Jamshed Ali, from his residence in the Chandkuti Satbazar Atharodon area. The police recovered 3,66,000 fake bidi bandrolls valued at Taka 32,61,060. The operation was conducted under the directives of RpMP Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mabud.

The counterfeit bandrolls were seized at 10:30 am, with the suspect subsequently handed over to the Haragachh police station. A case has been filed against Md Hamidul Haque. The police suspect that the counterfeit bandrolls were intended for use in manufacturing and selling bidis, thereby evading government taxes and duties.
