A tragic head-on collision between a passenger bus and a pickup van on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Habiganj resulted in the deaths of three individuals and left several others seriously injured. The accident occurred on Monday in the Rokonpur area under Paniumda union of Nabiganj upazila.
The deceased have been identified as Mashud Ahmed, 40, from Karkhana village in Dighalbak union, Abul Kashem, 50, from Inatganj South village, and Moyna Mia, 30, an employee of Fahim Vegetable Store at Inatganj Bazar. The pickup van, carrying several vegetable traders and employees from Inatganj Bazar, was en route to Digambar Bazar in Bahubal upazila to purchase vegetables and other produce.
Details of the Incident
The collision took place when the pickup van, traveling towards Digambar Bazar, met the passenger bus of Lucky Paribahan coming from the opposite direction. Mashud Ahmed, who was a passenger in the pickup van, died at the scene. The other two victims, Abul Kashem and Moyna Mia, succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Local residents swiftly rescued four critically injured individuals, including the pickup driver, and transported them to the hospital for immediate medical attention. Mohammad Jasim Uddin, sub-inspector of Sherpur Highway Police Station, confirmed the incident, stating that one person died at the scene and two others died later in the hospital.
