Customs intelligence officers seized a significant amount of gold, estimated at Tk 3.73 crore, near Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. Acting on a tip-off, officials stopped a vehicle at the roundabout area outside the airport, where the driver fled, leaving behind a cache of gold bars and other items.

What was seized and by whom?

The seized gold weighed 1,812 grams, equivalent to 155.35 bhori, and was tested to be 24-carat pure gold. The recovery was made by officials of the Airfreight Circle of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate. Alongside the gold, the search yielded three mobile phones, cash, a laptop, multiple bank cards, and other personal identification documents.

What led to the seizure?

The seizure followed a tip-off that led to the interception of a vehicle at the airport perimeter. The driver, Md Shamim Miah, abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene, prompting a thorough search by customs officials.

What is the current status of the case?

Legal action is in progress, with authorities preparing to file a case against the absconding driver with Airport Police Station. An inventory of all recovered items was documented at the Customs Hall by the investigation team.
