Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon has announced that students who are aggrieved by their Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examination results can apply for a thorough review of their question papers. This follows the official publication of this year's SSC results. The minister noted that this system has been ensured through legal changes to address any deprivation of fair marks or errors in evaluation.
Review Process and Legal Changes
Dr. Milon explained that if any student feels they have been deprived of fair marks or there has been an error in the evaluation, their papers will be properly evaluated by a review committee. He emphasized that this time, through legal changes, the opportunity to re-verify each student's papers has been ensured. Unlike past practices where only a formality of adding and subtracting marks was observed, this system aims for a thorough re-evaluation.
Addressing Educational Disparities and Zero Pass Institutions
Regarding institutions that passed with zero results, the minister mentioned that such occurrences increased significantly from 2001 to 2006 due to strict measures against copying in examination centers. However, through continuous and strict supervision, the number of such institutions was reduced, and the overall pass rate increased from 28 percent to 77 percent. The minister assured that actions will be taken regarding institutions with zero pass rates.
Dr. Milon also addressed the disparity in obtaining Grade Point Average (GPA)-5 between the Dhaka board and other education boards. He attributed these differences to socioeconomic contexts and infrastructural differences of local educational institutions, a common issue in any country. The government, he said, is working to eliminate this disparity by strengthening special supervision at the local level and improving the overall quality of education.
