Khulna Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Md Mostafizur Rahman today underscored that the police would carry out their duties impartially, transcending all political affiliations and without succumbing to influence from any particular group.
"Police will work impartially, above all political affiliations. At the state level, too, the police are not under any pressure," he said.
The DIG made these remarks during an exchange of views with journalists at the conference room of the Meherpur Superintendent of Police (SP) office. The meeting touched upon the district's law-and-order situation, drug control, online gambling, harassment of women, police-media relations, and ensuring the provision of accurate information to the media.
On the topic of drug control, Mostafizur Rahman asserted that any involvement of police personnel in drugs would not be tolerated. He stressed that not only drug users but also drug traders and anyone involved in drugs in any manner would be brought under the law. Action would also be taken against police personnel if evidence of their involvement in drugs was found.
The DIG also announced a stringent stance against online gambling, urging law enforcement agencies to work more actively to curb the practice. He emphasized the importance of preventing harassment of women, stating that such acts in any form would not be tolerated and those involved would face legal action.
Furthermore, Mostafizur Rahman called for stronger information sharing between police and the media, noting that false and misleading information is sometimes spread through online-based fake news platforms. "If the police provide journalists with rapid and accurate information, it will be possible to prevent the spread of such misinformation to a significant extent," he said.
The meeting was chaired by Meherpur SP Ujjal Kumar Ray. Additional Superintendent of Police Jamirul Rahman Khan also spoke. Meherpur District Press Club President Tojammel Azam, Meherpur Press Club President Faruk Hossain, Meherpur Protidin Editor Yadul Momin, and several journalists were present.
