Singapore's economy is set to grow at a faster pace than previously anticipated, driven by heightened global demand for artificial intelligence (AI). The Ministry of Trade and Industry announced an upward revision to the GDP growth forecast for 2026, now expecting it to expand between 4.5% and 5.5% year-on-year. This revision reflects robust economic performance in the first half of the year and an optimistic outlook for the remainder of 2026.

The revised growth projection is attributed to the significant increase in AI-related capital expenditure, which has bolstered key sectors such as manufacturing, wholesale trade, and finance and insurance. Notably, the electronics and precision engineering segments of the manufacturing sector, along with the machinery, equipment, and supplies segment of the wholesale trade sector, have experienced strong growth.
