Suman Hossain, 35, had taken money from Kulsum Begum's family with promises of sending her son abroad. When he failed to deliver on his promise, a dispute arose. Kulsum went missing on January 17, 2021, and her body was found on February 5, 2021, concealed in a Hasargaon vacant plot.

Kulsum's son, Kamrul Hasan Ayon, filed a murder case with Sreenagar Police Station after her body was discovered. Police arrested Suman Sheikh, and the court found him guilty based on his confession and witness testimonies.

Public Prosecutor Advocate Mustafizur Rahman stated that the court found Suman guilty of the murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of Taka 20,000 on Suman, with an additional year in jail if the fine is not paid.
