A Dhaka court has sentenced Masum Miah, also known as Kalu, to life imprisonment and fined him Taka 10,000 for the 2016 murder of Abdul Quddus, a grocery shop owner in the capital’s Bongshal area. The verdict was pronounced by Judge Md Sadekin Habib Bappi of Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court-6, who acquitted another accused, Eunus Miah, due to insufficient evidence.

The Gruesome Incident

On September 10, 2016, a group of assailants intercepted Abdul Quddus in the early hours in the Siddiqbazar area of Bongshal. The victim resisted when the group attempted to snatch his belongings, leading to a fatal confrontation where Quddus was repeatedly stabbed. The incident resulted in his death on the spot.

Legal Proceedings

The case was filed by Md Kamal Hossain, the victim's cousin, with Bongshal Police Station. The police filed a charge sheet against two individuals on November 10, 2016. After framing charges on March 7, 2017, the court examined 15 out of the total 18 prosecution witnesses during various hearings.
