Khulna City Corporation (KCC) has initiated a comprehensive program to combat the spread of dengue in Khulna's most affected areas, starting today. This initiative, which involves dividing the city into three zones, aims to control the mosquito-borne disease through various measures. The city has been segmented into Zone A, B, and C, with dedicated committees overseeing activities in each zone. Activities include awareness campaigns, chemical spraying, fogging, and identifying and eliminating breeding grounds with the help of local residents.
The program includes distributing informational leaflets, conducting awareness drives through public address systems, and implementing mosquito control measures. Teams will be active in identifying hotspots and eliminating breeding sites. Religious leaders will also be involved in raising awareness through their congregations. In cases where mosquito larvae are found on private or public property, mobile courts will be conducted by executive magistrates.
KCC has urged residents to keep their surroundings clean and to be vigilant about potential breeding grounds, such as stagnant water in everyday items. Residents experiencing fever symptoms have been advised to seek medical attention promptly. Healthcare facilities are also being urged to maintain cleanliness and follow government guidelines for dengue treatment.
KCC's proactive approach comes in response to rising dengue cases in the region, reflecting a broader concern in Bangladesh about vector-borne diseases. The initiative underscores the importance of community involvement and coordinated efforts in public health management.
The program will be officially launched by KCC Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju, who will inaugurate the activities at two locations in Ward 30 and Ward 28. Senior KCC officials, including the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Engineer, and Secretary, are overseeing the program's implementation.
