On August 13, 2026, the Election Commission revealed that two candidates have submitted their nomination papers for the upcoming presidential election. The validity of these submissions will be announced following a scrutiny process on August 16.

The nomination paper for BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was submitted on behalf of the BNP to Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin. Meanwhile, the nomination paper on behalf of Liberal Democratic Party Chairman Colonel (retd) Oli Ahmed was submitted by the 11-party alliance.

EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed confirmed that the deadline for submitting nomination papers was 4 pm on August 13. He stated, 'From 10 am on August 16, we will scrutinize whether these nomination papers are in order. An official from the National Parliament Secretariat will assist us in verifying their signatures.'
