In a concerning escalation of the dengue crisis, Bangladesh reported 639 new cases and 2 fatalities within the past 24 hours. Health officials have highlighted the severity of the outbreak, with patients being admitted to various medical facilities across the country.

The dengue outbreak has particularly affected major urban centers. Dhaka, the capital, saw significant cases with 109 reported in the Dhaka South City Corporation area and 100 in the Dhaka North City Corporation area. Other regions, including Chattogram, Barishal, Khulna, and Rajshahi divisions, also recorded substantial numbers of new infections.

The current outbreak has claimed 65 lives so far this year, bringing the total number of dengue cases to 22,243. This alarming rise in cases follows a similarly severe outbreak last year, which claimed 413 lives and infected 102,861 people. In 2024, the disease resulted in 575 deaths and 101,214 infections.

Health authorities are urging the public to take preventive measures to curb the spread of the disease. These include eliminating standing water where mosquitoes breed, using mosquito repellents, and wearing protective clothing. The government has also increased efforts to provide medical care to those affected.

The ongoing dengue crisis underscores the urgent need for a coordinated public health response. Experts emphasize the importance of community awareness and proactive measures to combat the spread of this mosquito-borne disease.

The Directorate General of Health Services has issued warnings and guidelines to help mitigate the impact of the outbreak. These include regular fumigation in affected areas, public awareness campaigns, and enhanced surveillance to monitor the disease's progression.
