Prime Minister Commits to Expanding Mathematics Olympiad at Grassroots Level

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman pledges continued government support to promote mathematics education and expand Mathematics Olympiad activities across Bangladesh, focusing on grassroots and school levels.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has pledged continued government support to promote mathematics education and expand Mathematics Olympiad activities across the country, with a particular focus on grassroots and school levels. During a meeting with Bangladeshi medal winners of international mathematics competitions, the Prime Minister agreed to proposals aimed at enhancing mathematics learning and competition at the school level.

Government Support for Mathematics Olympiad

The Prime Minister announced that the government will provide all necessary support to further expand mathematics practice and Mathematics Olympiad activities in the country. This includes establishing a fund for school-level Mathematics Olympiad programmes and introducing activity-oriented mathematics in schools.

Proposed Initiatives and Future Plans

Representatives of the Bangladesh Girls' Mathematical Foundation sought the Prime Minister's support to expand and make Mathematics Olympiad activities more effective at the grassroots level. In response, the Prime Minister assured them of all necessary government support for the initiative. Additionally, the Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad Committee proposed introducing a separate mathematics competency assessment test for schoolteachers, modelled on the IELTS examination for assessing English-language proficiency. The Prime Minister assured that he would consider this proposal with due importance.
