In a significant crackdown on crime, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 500 individuals and filed 58 cases during a 24-hour operation across Dhaka. The operation, aimed at maintaining law and order, led to the recovery of various illegal items including firearms, ammunition, drugs, and other contraband.

High Arrests in Key Areas

The highest number of arrests was recorded in Mirpur, with 101 individuals detained, followed by Motijheel with 85, Wari with 65, Tejgaon with 53, Lalbagh with 49, and Ramna with 46. Police also made significant arrests in Uttara (43), Gulshan (34), and through the Detective Branch (17) and the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit (seven).

Seizures and Rescue

During the operation, police recovered two foreign-made pistols, five rounds of ammunition, and two magazines. They also seized 12.2 kilograms of cannabis, 6,647 yaba tablets, 40 bottles of phensedyl, and 100 grams of heroin. Additionally, three machetes, a hammer, a toy pistol, six mobile phones, and a five-kilogram brass mesh were recovered. A victim was also rescued during the operation.

Legal proceedings against those arrested are currently underway. The DMP emphasized that the operation is part of their regular efforts to control crime in the capital.
