In a heartwarming display of community solidarity, the wedding of Boishakhi and Tarek, both intellectually disabled, was celebrated with joy and support in Tebaria village under Paba Upazila, Rajshahi. The entire wedding was arranged by the 'Lifat Protibondhi Foundation' and supported by local leaders, ensuring that no detail was overlooked. The event, held in a small courtyard in front of a thatched house, was filled with traditional music, delicious food, and the warmth of community spirit.
Boishakhi, dressed in a new sari and jewelry, and Tarek, in a new Panjabi and pajama, expressed their happiness and gratitude. Tarek, who works as a mason's helper and is the sole support for his sick mother, and Boishakhi, whose family struggles with severe poverty, found their dream of marriage coming true through the generosity of others.
The wedding was made possible by the efforts of Khairul Alam, former president of Parila Union BNP, who took responsibility for the event upon learning of Boishakhi's family's financial difficulties. The 'Lifat Protibondhi Foundation' covered all costs, with chairman Riaz Shikder leading the initiative. Local leaders, including Chairman of Parila Union Parishad Sayeed Ali Morshed, attended and contributed, gifting the couple a bed.
The community's involvement extended beyond the wedding day, with promises of continued support for the newlyweds. The event highlighted the importance of societal support for those facing challenges, demonstrating that with collective effort, dreams can be realized.
Tarek, in a halting voice, expressed his joy and asked for prayers for their future. Khairul Alam and Riaz Shikder both emphasized their commitment to supporting the couple beyond the wedding, ensuring they have the resources to build a happy life together.
