In a significant crackdown on smuggling, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) confiscated a substantial quantity of smuggled goods valued at approximately Tk63.62 lakh in various operations conducted along the country's borders. The seizures, which took place in different areas, included Indian basmati rice, energy drinks, olive oil, cattle, chocolates, vehicles, and other contraband items.
The Sultanpur Battalion of the BGB, operating in Kasba of Brahmanbaria and Brahmanpara and Burichang of Cumilla, managed to intercept a variety of smuggled goods. These included Indian basmati rice, energy drinks, olive oil, cattle, chocolates, an easy bike, a microbus, and motorcycles.
Simultaneously, the Sylhet Battalion conducted anti-smuggling drives in several border areas from the morning of August 12 to the morning of August 13. Among the seized items were Indian blankets, vegetables, sugar, basmati rice, fruits, biri, energy drinks, liquor, and 1,912 kg of garlic being smuggled out of Bangladesh. The operation also resulted in the confiscation of six wooden boats.
Additionally, the Khulna Battalion seized 617 bottles of Indian Eskuf syrup from the Daulatpur BOP area. The BGB has emphasized that intelligence gathering and patrol activities will continue to combat smuggling and drug trafficking, ensuring border security.
These operations highlight the ongoing challenges Bangladesh faces with smuggling along its borders, impacting both the economy and public health. The BGB's proactive measures aim to curb these illegal activities and maintain law and order.
