In response to a rising number of visitors and boat passengers, the Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has initiated a safety measure by distributing life jackets to boatmen. This initiative aims to ensure safe boat journeys for passengers on the Padma River, particularly at the Middle Char, which has gained popularity as 'Mini Switzerland' on social media.

Under the direction of RCC Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, a team led by Secretary Sohel Rana handed over the life jackets at Malekdagar Ghat in Ward No. 29 of the city. The boatmen were instructed to prioritize passenger safety by not taking excess passengers and using life jackets appropriately.

The distribution event was attended by RCC Executive Magistrate Nazmul Alam and other officials. The boatmen, who have been operating at the ghat for many years, expressed appreciation for this safety initiative. They noted that this is the first time such a measure has been taken to ensure their and their passengers' safety.

The increasing number of visitors and passengers crossing via the waterway has led to this proactive step by the RCC. Ensuring safety on water routes is crucial, especially in areas experiencing higher foot traffic. This initiative reflects the importance of safety measures in public transport, particularly in popular tourist destinations.

By providing life jackets and emphasizing safety protocols, the RCC aims to mitigate risks associated with boat journeys on the Padma River, thereby enhancing the overall travel experience for visitors to Rajshahi.
