Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto has hailed his team's historic victory over Australia, emphasizing the significant transformation in the country's fast bowlers' approach to Test cricket. The fast bowlers played a crucial role in Bangladesh's first-ever Test win against Australia, with Hasan Mahmudu delivering an exceptional performance. Mahmudu's figures of 9-111, including a maiden five-wicket haul on Australian soil, were instrumental in the team's nine-wicket victory.
Pace Bowling Revolution
Shanto noted that the desire among Bangladesh's fast bowlers to excel in Test cricket represents a major shift in their mindset. "That is the biggest change for Bangladesh in Test format. Earlier, five years ago, pacers didn't want to play Tests. But we've been playing lots of Test cricket and they are giving importance to Test format. They want to play, want to perform, want to be world class. That is the mindset they now have," Shanto remarked after the match.
He credited senior players Mushfiqur Rahim and Mominul Haque for instilling a love for Test cricket in the younger generation. "The two senior batters cherished the Test cricket and they spread it to the young generations," Shanto said.
Future Aspirations
Shanto also praised opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim for his maturity during the Test, where he scored his maiden Test century. "Tanzid attacks in the white-ball game, but in this Test he was calm and played shots on the ball's merit. As a top-order batter, we want him to have impact and he did it," Shanto added.
Terming the victory as Bangladesh's biggest achievement in any format, Shanto expressed the team's ambition to produce more special performances. "This is the biggest win so far for Bangladesh in any format. Going forward, we want to do something special in the future," he said. Bangladesh will now focus on the next Test in Mackay, where Shanto stressed the importance of maintaining discipline throughout the five-day contest.
