Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu today announced that arrangements will be made to export fresh fish from Rajshahi to foreign countries using cargo aircraft. Speaking as the chief guest at a discussion and award distribution ceremony at the Rajshahi District Shilpakala Academy auditorium, Minu said that the Rajshahi airport would be further expanded to facilitate these fish exports. He emphasized that Rajshahi would continue to advance with time, leveraging its natural resources.

The event, held to mark National Fisheries Fortnight-2026, saw Minu release fish fry into the Rajshahi Collectorate Pond. A colorful rally, starting from the Deputy Commissioner's office, concluded at the District Shilpakala Academy. Minu highlighted Bangladesh's progress in the fisheries sector, noting the country's current ranking as the eighth-largest global fish producer, with leading positions in certain categories.

Minu forecasted that Bangladesh would become one of the world's most advanced countries in several sectors in the near future. He drew attention to the future importance of freshwater resources, stating, "Future wars will not be fought over land; they will be fought over fresh water." He added that Bangladesh's vast freshwater reserves would significantly increase in value.

The minister also mentioned plans to develop canals and beels around Rajshahi to make them suitable for fish farming. He encouraged local farmers to adopt indigenous fish cultivation methods, which would enable them to export their produce and earn foreign currency. The ceremony was presided over by Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam, with District Fisheries Officer Md Jahangir Alam delivering the welcome speech.

Other notable attendees included Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner ANM Dr Bazlur Rashid, Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner Faizul Kabir, Additional DIG of Rajshahi Range Khandaker Shamim Hossain, and Rajshahi Divisional Fisheries Officer Saifuddin Yahya. The initiative to export Rajshahi fish is expected to boost the local economy and enhance Bangladesh's global standing in the fisheries sector.
