The Bangladesh Women’s cricket team has achieved yet another historic milestone by securing their first-ever One Day International (ODI) victory against Sri Lanka. This significant win marks a new chapter in the team’s journey, highlighting their growing prowess in international cricket.

A Historic Achievement

On 20th April, 2026, under the golden Rajshahi sun, the Bangladesh Women’s team showcased exceptional skill and determination to defeat Sri Lanka in a thrilling ODI match. This victory is particularly notable as it is the first time Bangladesh has triumphed over Sri Lanka in this format, adding another feather to their cap in a sport dominated by traditional giants.

The foundation of this historic win was laid by the relentless bowling performance of Ritu Moni, who delivered a masterclass with figures of 3/36, restricting Sri Lanka to a chaseable total of 205. In response, Sharmin Akhter played a stellar innings, scoring 86 runs and guiding Bangladesh to a 3-wicket victory. This win not only underscores the team’s potential but also their ability to perform under pressure on the biggest stage.

Building Momentum

This victory is the latest in a series of breakthroughs for the Bangladesh Women’s cricket team. Over the years, the team has systematically checked off first-ever victories against higher-ranked opponents, signaling their arrival and potential in international cricket. From their inaugural ODI win against Pakistan in 2014 to their recent triumphs over India and the West Indies, the Tigresses have proven their mettle time and again.

One of the most defining moments in Bangladesh's ODI cricket history came on 16th July 2023, when they defeated India by 40 runs via the DLS method. Marufa Akter’s fiery spell and Nigar Sultana’s captaincy ended a decade-long wait for a 50-over win against their neighbors. Similarly, in the 2022 ICC Women’s World Cup, Bangladesh secured their first-ever win in the tournament by defeating Pakistan in a nail-biting nine-run match.

These victories are not just wins on the scoreboard but are milestones that reflect the team’s growth, resilience, and determination. As they continue to break barriers and set new benchmarks, the Bangladesh Women’s cricket team is undoubtedly on the rise, inspiring a new generation of cricketers in the process.
