Bangladesh U23 showcased their formidable batting prowess and bowling strength in the first one-day match of the series against Malaysia at the Bashundhara Sports Complex. Sheikh Parvez Jibon delivered a stellar all-round performance, guiding Bangladesh to a commanding 153-run victory.
Powerful Batting Display
After being put into bat, Bangladesh recovered from an early collapse to post a competitive total of 290-9 in 50 overs. Mohammad Abdullah narrowly missed out on a century, making 94 from 100 balls, while Ahrar Amin contributed 61 from just 62 balls. Captain Kalam Siddiqui Aleen and Shahriar Shakib steadied the innings with crucial half-centuries.
The middle-order collapse saw Bangladesh at 100-5, but Abdullah and Amin’s partnership of 103 runs for the sixth wicket turned the tide. Jibon then finished the innings with a flurry of 35 runs off 18 balls, propelling Bangladesh to a formidable total.
Clinical Bowling Performance
Malaysia’s chase was always going to be challenging, and they struggled from the start. Jibon was the star with the ball, claiming figures of 5-16 in 7.5 overs, dismantling Malaysia’s batting lineup. Maruf Mridha and Sadhin Islam supported well with two wickets each.
Malaysia’s top scorer was Ahmed Zubaidi, who made 42 before being trapped leg before wicket by Jibon. The visitors were eventually dismissed for 137 in 40.5 overs, unable to cope with the relentless Bangladesh bowling attack.
Jibon was rightly named Player of the Match for his match-winning performance. The second game of the three-match series will be held at the same venue on Friday.
