Two passengers were killed and four others injured when a truck collided with a battery-run auto-rickshaw in Hatibandha Bazar area under Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat district this afternoon. According to locals, the auto-rickshaw was traveling from Dighirhat area towards Hatibandha Bazar when the truck, heading towards Burimari Land Port, crashed into it. The impact was severe, resulting in the immediate death of two passengers and critical injuries to four others.
Local residents swiftly came to the aid of the injured, rescuing them and transporting them to Hatibandha Upazila Health Complex for medical attention. The condition of some of the injured is reported to be critical, raising concerns about their prognosis.
Hatibandha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ashrafuzzaman Sarker confirmed that the identities of the deceased could not be ascertained immediately. The police have taken custody of the truck involved in the accident, but its driver and helper managed to flee the scene, complicating the investigation.
Legal proceedings are currently underway to address the incident. The police are investigating the circumstances leading to the collision and are seeking to apprehend the fleeing truck driver and helper to hold them accountable for their actions.
