DSCC Administrator Pledges Firm Action to Combat Negligence in Civic Services

In a significant move to enhance civic services, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Valiant Freedom Fighter Md Abdus Salam has declared that no negligence in service delivery will be tolerated. At a press briefing, he revealed that surprise inspections will now be conducted at least once a week in various DSCC areas to assess services such as waste management, mosquito control, revenue collection, street lighting, and engineering. Any detected negligence will result in immediate administrative action against the responsible officials.

The administrator's announcement followed a coordinated drive in the Science Lab and City College areas, where DSCC departments inspected waste management, mosquito control, street lighting, revenue collection, and the removal of illegal footpath occupations. During this drive, officials checked trade licenses, confiscated illegally operated mobile shops, and took legal action against offenders. Mobile courts led by DSCC executive magistrates were also in operation.

Md Abdus Salam emphasized the importance of area-based public hearings, stating that effective management of Dhaka South's vast area requires direct interaction with citizens. Over the past five months, both DSCC officials and the public have been urged to cooperate and remain vigilant. The administrator is now taking a hands-on approach by conducting field supervision.

Warning citizens about their responsibilities, the administrator said strict fines would be imposed if anyone dumps garbage indiscriminately or allows water to accumulate, creating conditions for Aedes mosquito larvae. He expressed his determination to transform Dhaka South into a 'Clean and Green City' through public awareness and coordinated efforts.

During the recent drive, A Hossain Builder was fined Taka 100,000 under Section 269 of the Penal Code for allowing Aedes mosquito larvae to breed in stagnant water at an under-construction building. Rasui restaurant was fined Taka 10,000 under Section 52 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009, for serving food in an unhygienic environment, while Dhanmondi Popular Diagnostic Centre was fined Taka 5,000 for illegal parking on the footpath. DSCC authorities have stated that such coordinated drives and mobile court operations will continue for the public's benefit.
