Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon said today that halal food culture and values can become a great asset and strength not only for the Muslim world but also for the entire human civilisation. He highlighted that the development of halal products and culture is directly related to the global economy and human welfare, noting the huge global market for halal food.
The minister made these remarks while addressing a seminar titled ‘Think Halal, Grow Global’, organised by the Malaysian High Commission in Dhaka at a city hotel. He stressed that the common values of Bangladesh and Malaysia in religious and social fields position both countries to play a significant role in developing the halal industry and expanding its scope in the global market.
Swapon called upon entrepreneurs, investors, traders, and other concerned institutions to work in a coordinated manner to tap into the global demand for halal products. He emphasised the need to create proper ideas, information, knowledge, and specific business structures for investors, which would positively impact the market and increase the acceptance of halal products among consumers.
Recalling the recent visit of Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to Malaysia, Swapon praised the warm welcome extended by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, highlighting the deep friendship between the two countries. He expressed gratitude to the Malaysian government and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on behalf of the government and people of Bangladesh.
The minister noted that the foundation of Bangladesh-Malaysia relations is sustained through people’s values and mutual cooperation, and the halal industry will serve as an important new area of economic and diplomatic cooperation between the two countries. Malaysian High Commissioner in Dhaka Mohd Shuhada Othman and Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industries President Anwar Shahid also spoke at the seminar, which saw participation from top businessmen, investors, entrepreneurs, and representatives of relevant sectors from both countries.
The seminar underscored the potential for Bangladesh to leverage its relationship with Malaysia to boost the halal industry, which could significantly contribute to the country's economic growth and international standing.
