A mobile court in Manikganj fined a person Tk 50,000 for illegally lifting sand from a restricted area of the river in Daulatpur upazila. The court, led by Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Probir Biswas, also destroyed parts of a dredger used for the illegal activity. The action was taken following complaints from local residents about ongoing illegal sand extraction near residential areas and croplands, posing threats to homes and agricultural land.

The mobile court was conducted in the Bania Ghona area, where the illegal sand lifting was taking place. During the operation, around 500 feet of pipe from the dredger was destroyed. This move is part of a broader effort by the Daulatpur upazila administration to curb illegal sand extraction, which has been a persistent issue in the region.

Illegal sand lifting is a significant problem in many parts of Bangladesh, particularly in riverine areas. The practice not only depletes natural resources but also leads to environmental degradation, affecting both residential areas and agricultural lands. The fines and destruction of equipment aim to deter such activities and protect the environment.

Executive Magistrate Probir Biswas assured that such drives would continue in the public interest. The administration is committed to ensuring that illegal activities are stopped and that the environment is protected for the benefit of the community.

The issue of illegal sand lifting is not unique to Manikganj. Across Bangladesh, similar activities have been reported, leading to significant environmental and social impacts. The government has been taking various measures to address this, including increased patrolling, awareness campaigns, and legal actions against offenders.

For the people of Daulatpur upazila, this action by the mobile court is a positive step towards ensuring their safety and preserving their environment. The community has long been affected by the illegal sand lifting, and this intervention is seen as a necessary measure to protect their homes and livelihoods.

In conclusion, the fine imposed by the mobile court and the destruction of the dredger highlight the government's commitment to tackling illegal sand lifting. This action not only serves as a deterrent but also emphasizes the importance of environmental protection in Bangladesh.
