Grameenphone has contributed Tk 24.60 crore to the Bangladesh Labour Welfare Foundation Fund, representing 10 percent of the company’s Workers Profit Participation Fund (WPPF) for 2025. A delegation led by Grameenphone's Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), Sayeda Tahya Hossain, recently handed over the cheque to Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury, MP, at a ceremony held at the Ministry. Labour and Employment Secretary Md Abdur Rahman Tarafder was also present.

According to a Grameenphone press release, this contribution is in accordance with the Bangladesh Labour Act, which mandates that eligible domestic and foreign companies contribute one-tenth of 5 percent of their profits to the Labour Welfare Foundation Fund. This fund is designed to support the welfare and rights of workers across various industries in Bangladesh.

Grameenphone’s total accumulated contribution to the Fund up to the 2024 financial year amounts to Tk 329,89,17,947. For the 2025 financial year, an additional Tk 246,087,565 is being contributed. This ongoing commitment underscores the company's dedication to supporting labour welfare initiatives.

The Bangladesh Labour Welfare Foundation Fund plays a crucial role in enhancing the living standards of workers by providing various benefits and support services. These include healthcare facilities, skill development programs, and financial assistance during emergencies. The consistent contributions from companies like Grameenphone are vital for the sustainability and effectiveness of these welfare programs.

Grameenphone has also been actively working on strengthening digital and AI capabilities within its workforce. The company is committed to extending digital skills and opportunities to communities across Bangladesh. This dual focus on technological advancement and labour welfare reflects Grameenphone's broader corporate social responsibility initiatives.

The contribution by Grameenphone is not only a legal obligation but also a significant step towards ensuring the well-being of workers in the country. By adhering to the Bangladesh Labour Act and consistently contributing to the Labour Welfare Foundation Fund, Grameenphone sets a positive example for other companies to follow. This commitment to labour welfare is essential for fostering a supportive and equitable work environment in Bangladesh.
