The National Fisheries Fortnight 2026 was inaugurated in Manikganj today with the theme 'A self-reliant nation through silver fish, Bangladesh first.' The event aims to raise awareness about the importance of the fisheries sector and promote sustainable fish production across the country. Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita inaugurated the event by starting a rally at the Collectorate premises. The rally, which included participants from various government and political sectors, paraded through the main roads of the town and concluded at the same venue.

Following the rally, Minister Rita released fish fry into a pond adjacent to the Deputy Commissioner's office as a symbolic gesture of the event's objectives. This act underscores the government's commitment to enhancing fish production and ensuring food security through sustainable practices.

A discussion session was held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner, attended by government officials, political leaders, and journalists. The session focused on the challenges and opportunities within the fisheries sector, emphasizing the need for innovative approaches to achieve self-reliance in fish production.
