Jeremy Jacquet scored on his Liverpool debut as Andoni Iraola's Reds ended their pre-season campaign with a 2-0 win over Serie A side Como at Anfield on Sunday. The 21-year-old Frenchman, who joined Liverpool for a reported £60 million ($81 million) in January, had been sidelined due to a knee injury. His impressive performance, including a tap-in goal from Cody Gakpo's cross, showcased his potential and provided a positive note ahead of the Premier League season.

Impressive Debut

Jacquet's debut was marked by well-timed challenges and a composed finish, rounding off a fine first appearance for Liverpool. His goal in the 44th minute gave the Reds a 2-0 lead, following Gakpo's earlier strike in the 23rd minute. Jacquet was replaced by another debutant, Ronald Araujo, at half-time, highlighting the depth of talent in Liverpool's squad.

Manager's Praise

Andoni Iraola praised both Jacquet and Araujo for their performances, noting their impact in their first game for the club. 'I think Jeremy played really well. Also Ronald played really well when he came in,' Iraola said. 'When you have two new faces, first game for both, they do so well.' Iraola also commended Jeremie Frimpong's performance, highlighting the team's strong showing in the first half.

The victory provided a much-needed confidence boost for Liverpool as they prepare to begin their Premier League campaign away to Newcastle a week on Sunday. The clean sheet and solid performance will be encouraging signs for Iraola, who has taken over from the sacked Arne Slot. 'I think we need a little bit this feeling of finishing with a clean sheet, winning the game,' Iraola said. 'Still, the first half has been better than the second, but at least we kept our organisation, our composure and we found a way to finish with a clean sheet, 2-0. I think we needed this feeling before we start.'

Jacquet's debut performance not only showcased his individual talent but also signaled the potential impact he could have on Liverpool's defense this season. His integration into the team, along with Araujo's, adds depth and quality to the squad as they aim for success in both domestic and European competitions.
