French swimming star Leon Marchand secured his second gold medal at the European championships in Paris on Sunday, dominating the 400m freestyle. Marchand, a four-time Olympic champion, clocked a time of 3min 43.14sec, finishing 1.32 seconds ahead of Hungary's Oliver Papai. Germany's Lukas Martens, the world record holder, took the bronze.

Marchand, who had already won gold in the 200m butterfly, expressed his delight with the victory. "It was a new race for me, so I really enjoyed it," he said. Marchand also contributed to France's bronze medal in the men's 4x100m medley relay later that day.

The 24-year-old French swimmer was racing a reduced schedule at the Europeans as he continues to recover from a thigh injury. Despite this, his performance in Paris has been nothing short of spectacular. Marchand was one of the standout athletes at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he won gold in the 200m butterfly and 200m breaststroke, as well as the 200m and 400m individual medleys.

In other events, Hungarian swimmer Hubert Kos won his third men's 200m individual medley European title, adding to his gold medals in the 200m backstroke and men's 100m freestyle relay. Kos completed the race in 1:54.24, holding off a strong challenge from Spain's Hugo Gonzalez to secure the win.

Britain topped the medals table with eight golds and 14 medals in total. Keanna Macinnes won the 200m butterfly and contributed to Britain's victory in the women's 4x100m medley relay. Italian swimmer Simona Quadarella finished strongly in the women's 400m freestyle, winning her third gold of the championships.

The European championships have showcased a range of talented swimmers, with Marchand's performances particularly capturing the attention. His ability to excel in multiple events highlights his versatility and skill in the sport. For Bangladeshi readers, Marchand's success underscores the global nature of competitive swimming and the high level of talent that continues to emerge in the sport.
