Muhammad Kader Gani Chowdhury, the newly appointed Managing Director (MD) and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), has voiced his optimism to elevate the national news agency to international standards by upholding the principles of truth, objectivity, and the highest standards of professionalism. Speaking at a felicitation ceremony organized by journalists, officials, and employees of BSS at its headquarters in Dhaka, Chowdhury formally assumed his new role and outlined his vision for the agency.
Earlier in the day, Chowdhury submitted his joining letter to Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farjana at her office in the Bangladesh Secretariat. Principal Information Officer (PIO) Syed Abdal Ahmed accompanied him to the BSS office. Chowdhury emphasized that BSS possesses a highly talented and skilled team of journalists, and with honest work based on truth and professionalism, the agency can earn a reputable international standing and reach new heights.
Highlighting the importance of impartiality in news reporting, the BSS MD stated that journalism is fundamentally about the pursuit of truth. He asserted that the responsibility of BSS is solely to the state and the people of Bangladesh, not to any political party, group, or individual interest. Chowdhury called for a cordial working environment, urging BSS members to work together for the welfare of the state and the people, and stressed that there is no room for personality cults or displays of power.
Syed Abdal Ahmed, speaking at the event, reminisced about BSS’s past as a vibrant and influential institution that published exclusive interviews with international personalities, VVIPs, and heads of state. He called for the restoration of that legacy under the new leadership. Ahmed noted that having an experienced journalist and efficient organizer at the helm of BSS presents a significant opportunity for the organization.
Upon his arrival, Chowdhury was warmly welcomed by BSS journalists, officers, and employees with flowers. Various journalist organizations, including the Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ), BSS Employees Union, and Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU), congratulated him. The event was moderated by BSS City Editor and former DRU President Mursalin Nomani, with several prominent figures from the journalism community in attendance.
