In a somber event, Nurul Islam Akand, father of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Senior Reporter and former Joint Secretary of the Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association (BSJA) Sayed Mohammad Pitu, died at his residence in Mirpur-1, Dhaka, on August 4, 2026, due to complications from old age. He was 82 years old. His passing has left a significant void in the lives of his family and colleagues.
Health Struggles and Final Moments
Akand had been battling various age-related health issues for nearly two years and had been bedridden. He breathed his last at 1:30 PM, surrounded by his family. His namaz-e-janaza was conducted after the Maghrib prayers at Madhya Paikpara Jame Mosque in Mirpur, and he was laid to rest at the Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals' Graveyard.
Nurul Islam Akand is survived by his wife, one son, two daughters, and numerous relatives and well-wishers. The loss of a beloved family member has deeply affected Pitu and his entire family.
